Sports Injury Rehabilitation
“Rehab is training in the presence of an injury”
With a BSc (Hons) degree in Athletic Therapy and Training from DCU and 12+ years experience dealing with athletes in both elite and sub-elite settings. I have fine-tuned an evidence-led approach that has helped numerous clients return to their best as quickly and responsibly as possible.
Similar to the initial consultation, a thorough assessment is carried out to determine the extent of an athlete’s injury and formulate a rehabilitation program for them.

Aims of Sports Injury Rehabilitation
-
Reduce any pain or discomfort
-
Restore range of motion and strength
-
Condition the athlete to a level better than pre-injury and for return to sport
-
Give the athlete the tools to maintain this level of fitness/conditioning and advise on injury prevention strategies.
I also cater to post-operative care.
Sports Massage
Benefits of Sports Massage
-
Reduces muscle tone
-
It can reduce the painful symptoms of DOMS(delayed onset muscle soreness) which athletes can get after intense bouts of resistance training.
-
It can help rejuvenate tired muscles
-
Regular sessions can be useful in identifying areas that may need addressing before it contributes towards an injury, eg. asymmetries in muscle mass, tone, range of motion etc
-
Though some of the benefits of sports massage may only be temporary, it can be a useful way of providing the window of opportunity for the patient to exercise in a pain-free range of motion, leading to longer-term gains.
